Pantech Pocket

Hundreds of smartphones of all shapes, sizes and colors pass through the doors of Engadget HQ every year, so it's natural for a few oddball devices with crazy form factors to end up in our hands from time to time. The Motorola Flipout, LG DoublePlay,...

Durable design ; Good battery life ; Wide screen is ideal for consuming content

Subpar video and still photos ; Feels slower than a 1GHz CPU should ; Uncomfortable to hold

The Pantech Pocket is a unique smartphone with an intriguing design, but ultimately falls short in performance, UI and comfort.

Pantech Pocket (AT&T) review

Pantech and AT&T have a history of making some pretty reliable phones, including the Pantech Crossover and the Pantech Laser . In the Pantech Pocket, you see Pantech's easy-to-use Android Gingerbread skin, HSPA+ 4G speeds, and a good-quality...

An intriguing design, a helpful take on Android, and a reliable camera make the Pantech Pocket an interesting smartphone choice for AT&T. It also has 4G HSPA+ speeds.

No camera flash and poor video playback quality are black marks against the Pocket. Small controls don't do it any favors, either. Call quality could be better.

The Pantech Pocket dishes up a solid 4G Android Gingerbread experience at a wallet-friendly price, but the extra-wide frame, absent camera flash, and poor video playback quality could deter some folks.

Pantech Pocket (AT&T)

The Pantech Pocket has an interesting design with considerable benefits, though a few flaws that have nothing to do with its shape hold it back.

Powerful Android phone for the price. Squarish 4:3 screen improves messaging, Web browsing, and videos. Stellar battery life.

Poor voice quality. Some sluggishness. Mediocre camera. Uncomfortable to hold for voice calls. Must pull the battery to swap memory cards.

Multimedia, Camera, and Conclusions There's a standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack on top, where it belongs. But the microSD card slot is buried behind the battery; that's a disappointment considering the Pocket's extra width. My 32GB SanDisk card worked...

Holiday Gift Guide: The Perfect Camera for Any Photographer

In a world of 4.3-inch, rectangular, black Android phones, the Pantech Pocket ($50 with a two-year contract from AT&T; price as of November 21, 2011) is refreshingly different in design. The Pocket's oversize display is great for e-reading and Web...

Pantech Pocket Review

Pantech has been known to make some really affordable devices, but seeing that the competition are known to do the same, they're going to need to work harder to justify why their selections are superior. With its 4:3 aspect ratio, the Pantech Pocket is...

Review: Pantech Pocket for AT&T

Pantech's latest handset for AT&T is the unconventional Pocket, which has an extra-wide display. The question is, does the Pocket put the big screen to good use? Phone Scoop finds out.

Pantech Pocket Written Review by Sydney

I've heard many people complain about the repetitive nature of smartphones these days. It seems like they all look the same and, in reality, they do. Some have larger displays or different build materials, but you don't see a lot of ingenuity when it...

Unique display design makes for an improved media experience; clear and bright display; Android 2.3; good still picture quality

Terrible video capture quality; inconsistent web browser performance; odd-looking hardware design

If the unique hardware doesn't turn you away, you'll enjoy a better experience when texting, web browsing, reading e-books, playing games, and watching videos.
