Apple iMac 27-Inch With 5K Retina Display (2017)

The newest 27-inch Apple iMac is a gorgeous all-in-one with a brilliant display and a handful of modern upgrades at an appealing price. It's not revolutionary, but it's the best version of the iMac to date.

Sleek, trend-setting design remains. Stunning 5K display is brighter than before. Includes USB-C with Thunderbolt 3.

Rear-facing ports are inconvenient. Limited tilt and no height adjustment options.

That said, Windows-based desktops just keep getting better. The physical hardware is often as well designed, and there are important differentiators being added to the large-display designs. The HP Envy is more eye-catching with its huge curved display...

Apple iMac (27-inch, 2017) review

Apple dusts off its veteran 27-inch iMac all-in-one, updating it just enough to bring it up to 2017 standards for speed and features, as well as to brighten its 5K display and give it the ability to simulate more colors. In practice, that means Apple...

The Apple iMac's 27-inch 5K display remains the most color-accurate monitor we've seen thus far in an all-in-one, and performance is much improved. Plus it's got two USB-C/Thunderbolt connectors which can drive more external displays and faster file...

The overall design remains unchanged since 2014 -- including the inconvenient rear-mounted ports and SD slot.

The already impressive 27-inch 5K iMac gets some welcome spec upgrades for 2017, but rival Windows machines have closed the gap.

Apple iMac 27-inch with Retina 5K display (2017): CPU and GPU upgrades deliver better value for money

When the iMac was first launched, it was very much intended as an affordable home computer -- and, indeed, was often derided for its cute, candy-coloured design. In recent years, though, the iMac has gradually evolved into a professional-level graphics...

7th generation Kaby Lake CPU ; Improved GPU ; Brighter display ; Two Thunderbolt 3 ports

Poor upgradeability ; Only 8GB of RAM as standard ; Expensive build-to-order options

Apple 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display (2017) review: Apple’s greatest all-in-one is better than ever

Kaby Lake internals, a faster Fusion Drive and better graphics give the 5K iMac a much-needed boost

Apple iMac 27-inch 5K review: It sucks... you right in

The screen is truly mesmerizing.

Even brighter 5K Retina display than before ; $200 cheaper than previous entry-level ; Wicked fast Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports ; Fusion Drive standard on all models

Sluggish performance with 8GB of RAM

The 2017 27-inch iMac with 5K Retina display is an incredible all-in-one computer, but only after you add more RAM.

Apple iMac 27-inch with 5K Retina Display (2017) Review and Ratings

Apple's revamped 5K iMac delivers the best (and brightest) screen we've seen in any AIO desktop to date, and packs peppy component and port updates. But on both the design and performance fronts, it faces stiffer competition than ever from a few...

Best-in-class display, both in terms of pixels and brightness ; Thunderbolt 3 ports bring more bandwidth and modernize the connectivity ; Hybrid drive now comes standard ; Easily upgradable RAM

Design, while excellent, now faces stiff competition from Windows AIOs ; Thick bezels ; Bundled Magic Mouse 2 still has awkward charging port

Apple's 2017 27-inch 5K iMac is still an attractive, well-rounded desktop, and its upgraded internals and ports are all much appreciated. And starting at $1,799, with the best screen we've seen in any all-in-one to date, it's fairly priced, too. The...

iMac 27-inch (2017) preview

With new graphics cards, a better display, faster processors and improvements to the RAM you couldn't really ask for anything more from the new 27-inch iMac

We’re impressed by the new 27-inch iMac because it’s apparent from the changes this generation brings that Apple has been listening to users, especially creative pros and probably gamers too, if the new graphics cards indicate anything.
