Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon Review

Lenovo's Horizon proves that the table PC can actually be fun, but a high price tag and poor performance limit its potential.

Lenovo has tried to think of everything with the Horizon. Consumers can even buy a table built specifically for it (we didn’t receive the table, so can’t comment on its quality). Careful thought went into everything from the interface to the peripherals.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon Table

Hands-on: A 27-inch tablet PC that the family can play board games on.

Lenovo showed-off a higher-spec version at CES 2013, where we saw the PC, though. It featured a Core i7 processor, SSD and Nvidia GeForce GT620M graphics card. The Lenovo IceaCentre Horizon Table will go on sale later this year. We'll be back with UK...

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon Cart review: Put your 27-inch tablet on wheels

The IdeaCentre Horizon weighs nearly 19 pounds. Lenovo's cart accessory renders it portable and suitable for electronic board games.

Roll easily ; Locking brakes on all four wheels ; Accessory tray ; Not ridiculously expensive

No simple height adjustment ; You need to hold the keyboard in your lap while using the tablet as an all-in-one PC ; Doesn't pivot into portrait mode for playing pinball sims

This cart is a very handy accessory for Lenovo's IdeaCentre Horizon, but you'll want to be aware of a couple design shortcomings before buying one.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon

The Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon portable all-in-one desktop is impressive, but it makes too many compromises for portability.

Huge, clear screen. Aura interface is flashy and mostly useful. Ten-finger touch on a 1080p HD screen. Has battery for in-house portability. Sturdy stand. Comes with Monopoly and other touch games. Android app compatibility.

Desperately needs a SSD+HDD setup. Heavy at 18 pounds. Bulky. Pricey. Only two USB 3.0 ports. Mobile components limit performance.

Another problem with the IdeaCentre Horizon is its day-to-day performance. The combination of a huge screen and a 5,400rpm SATA drive mean that using the system with touch is a frustratingly laggy experience. When using the system in table PC mode,...

The Lenovo Horizon 27 wants to be your digital coffee table

More than an all-in-one or megatablet, the 27-inch Horizon is the PC reimagined as home furniture.

The large screen and lie-flat design make the ; a fun family PC with lots of casual gaming potential. It includes several gaming accessories and has a custom user interface, Aura.

The heavy, clunky kickstand can get in the way, there's a little sluggishness with some of the software, and battery life is way too short for a game of Monopoly.

Tabletop PCs may not be fully ready for the mainstream, but this coffee-table-size version from Lenovo is fun to use, and doubles as a solid all-in-one desktop.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27 review

Who would have thought that, rather than hybrid laptops or Windows 8 tablets, the most interesting new hardware trend in computers for 2013 would be tabletop PCs? That's an unofficial term I use to describe the growing number of systems that straddle...

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27 Core i5

The latest, and my favorite to date, is the Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27. No points for guessing from the name that it's built around a 27-inch display. Sure, it functions perfectly well as a desktop all-in-one, as long as you don't mind the screen's...

There are times when computer manufacturers go a bit bonkers just because they can. The Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon falls into one such category. Or at least

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27 “Table PC” Review

The Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27, "Table PC" as they call it, is easily one of the most unique PCs we've seen in the past several years. This machine works with a massive display that sits on a hinge holding it up - or allowing it to lie flat - for...

In the Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27 you’ve got what’ll almost certainly continue to be one of the most solid “odd” computers on the market. Microsoft’s push for uniqueness in Windows 8 hardware has definitely made it’s mark on the hardware landscape –...

Lenovo Horizon 27 review

A novel mega tablet that's both fun and fast, but it's far too expensive

Our main concern, though, is the price. The novelty factor certainly adds a lot to the overall cost, but at £1,600, you could buy two Dell XPS 18s and still have money left over. Otherwise, we’d recommend the Best Buy winning Acer Aspire 7600U.
