Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset review

High resolution display ; Easy setup ; Inside-out tracking

Uncomfortable ; Limited game selection ; Not price competitive ; Unintuitive controllers

Compared to the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, which have had more than a year to mature into fully-featured immersive VR platforms, the Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset feels half-baked.

Acer AH101-D8EY Windows Mixed Reality Headset

The first Windows Mixed Reality VR headset we've tested, the Acer AH101-D8EY offers strong, affordable hardware for a platform that still has a lot of rough edges to smooth.

Relatively affordable for a tethered headset. Comfortable. Easy to set up. No external sensors or beacons needed.

Camera-based position tracking isn't quite as responsive as sensor/beacon-based tracking. SteamVR compatibility is buggy. Windows Mixed Reality library is small compared with SteamVR and Oculus Rift.

Bottom Line: The first Windows Mixed Reality VR headset we've tested, the Acer AH101-D8EY offers strong, affordable hardware for a platform that still has a lot of rough edges to smooth.

Acer Mixed Reality Head-Mounted Display review

Lighter, sharper and likely cheaper than the competition

Super light ; Shaper resolution than most ; Fewer hardware bits

No live view passthrough

Without making much judgment not knowing its price, the Acer HMD is the sharpest and lightest HMD we’ve tested yet. With the potential to cost $200 left than a Rift, Oculus and HTC better think of something -- and fast.

Acer Windows Mixed Reality review: Good enough to bring VR to the masses?

The Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset is one of the cheapest of the current offerings of Mixed Reality headsets and it, unfortunately, shows during

Affordable ; Easy to setup ; Less hassle than other headsets ; Interesting Windows experience in a virtual space.

Tracking can be off at times ; Image quality is not as good as higher-end VR headsets ; Lacking in several areas ; Limited content right now ; Controllers feel cheap ; Oculus is the same price

The Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset is one of the more affordable Mixed Reality headset offerings but, unfortunately, at this £399 price point, it can't quite compete with headsets like the equally-priced Oculus Rift. Not yet, anyway.

Review: Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset and Controller

The VR headsets of one or two years ago like the Oculus and the HTC Vive did deliver on the promise of bringing VR to consumers but at a steep price as well as high-end hardware requirements. With the entry of Microsoft into VR, using tech and...

Acer Windows Mixed Reality HMD Review

Light ; Comfortable ; Easy setup ; No extra sensors

Build quality concerns ; Bluetooth controller not included ; 2D apps in 3D environment feel gimmicky

The Windows Mixed Reality platform has a lot of potential, and we're sure that Microsoft will evolve it into something truly useful for productivity. The current version doesn't live up to our expectations, though. Acer's implementation is a decent VR...

Acer Mixed Reality Headset Review: It’s Empty in Here

The Acer WMR AH101 and all the upcoming Microsoft headsets are the mixed-reality devices that weren't. Despite a pair of sensors that could potentially be used to overlay digital images onto the physical world, there's not much mixed about Microsoft's...

Colorful, lightweight design ; Compatible with a large number of systems ; Doesn't need external sensors

Apps and games are lacking ; Noticeable visual difference depending on the system ; Costs the same as the Oculus Rift

The Acer Window Mixed Reality AH101 Headset offers an easy plug-and-play setup and a comfortable design, but it suffers from a small selection of apps, along with some tracking issues.

“VR is een fantastische ervaring”

Deze MR-bril, of VR-bril, werkt verbazend goed. De kijkhoeken zijn 110 graden en dat is prima en ook de resolutie is goed: hij is zelfs nog scherper dan de HTC Vive. De bril sluit goed af, maar ik vind de kussentjes bij de neus wat minder. Maar als je...

Goed beeld ; Prima draagconfort ; Genoeg content tegenwoordig ; Tracking van controllers werkt goed
