MWg Zinc II review

Can new company MWg's prestige handset stand out from the smart phone crowd?

Touch screen ; QWERTY keyboard ; Windows Mobile 6.1 ; HSDPA

Chunky body ; Only 2 megapixel camera ; Fiddly keyboard

A good first effort at a QWERTY-packing smart phone but better is (probably) on the way

MWg - Zinc II

MWg's Zinc II brings a slide-out keyboard into the range of Windows Mobile devices from the company. The Zinc II is packed with features and could be described as the top of the current range. ...

The Zinc II is hampered by its keyboard which is not designed for fast use. It has a good set of features, though, and unless you want a video calling camera it is worth a look.

MWg Zinc II

Mobile & Wireless Group (MWg) is a Singapore based start-up company established to develop and market premium, converged mobile devices. It was

Excellent touch responsiveness ; Fast GPS location acquisition ; Unlocked ; Quadband GSM/Triband UMTS ; WiFi/HSDPA

Lack of included software like Adobe Reader ; No dedicated headphone jack ; Screen only QVGA ; No cover on Micro SD slot

The MWg Zinc II is a solid performer and I think it is what the AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser) should have been out of the box. That said, given the competition that is forming out there with the HTC Touch Pro, Samsung Omnia and Sony/Ericsson Xperia X1, the...

MWg Zinc II Review

Windows Mobile sometimes gets a bad rap for having so many devices over so many carriers, manufacturers, and form factors compared to OS X on the iPhone or even Symbian (which is largely associated with Nokia though there are other licensees). However,...

It's a snappy performer, and a solid device who just needs a bit more maturity to figure out where it fits in today's competitive marketplace

Review: MWg Zinc II

I've been putting a lot of phones through their paces lately and the latest one to hit the lab is the Zinc II by MWg (Mobile and Wireless Group). The Zinc II is an unlocked Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional touch-screen enabled device that features a...

MWg Zinc II Review

You certainly won't lose it easily in your pocket at these dimensions and with this weight you will know exactly where it is. If you should lose it the just ring it, the volume will be heard for miles! With its connections speeds and capability it...

MWg Zinc II Review

Antoine Wright brings us a "first thoughts" review of the MWg Zinc II, a new Windows Mobile smartphone with a sliding keyboard, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a proprietary fingertip-friendly user interface.

Look forward to the full review in a few weeks time. I’ll most likely have gotten used to the quirks of using it, as well as finding any special features on the device or in accompanying software.

MWG Zinc II review

Now a smartphone company in its own right, MWG has begun its assault on the smartphone world. The Zinc II is one of three recent launches…

It is a zippy performer, and has a sliding keyboard, GPS and Quick Menu

The flat keyboard is tricky to use

We can't help liking this smartphone, although it does have a couple of letdowns

MWg Zinc II

The MWg Zinc II is a tweener; a traditional old school Windows Mobile Professional QWERTY side-slider with a few updates to help it compete with today's trendy touch screen WinMo devices like the HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro, Samsung Omnia and the...

Nice design makes this tank-like form factor seem more modern and smaller than it really is. Unlocked and has US 3G HSDPA that works on AT&T, while GSM and EDGE work fine on T-Mobile. Flush display makes MWg's own Quick Menu and 3rd party...

The keyboard is not so nice-- the flush keys and lack of a 4th row make for a weak typing experience. 64 megs of RAM is just plain silly for this sort of power user's PDA phone

and others.
