We take a first look at the Google Pixel Slate, and find out if it's ready for creatives as we find out its specs, release date and price.

Sleek design ; Good keyboard and trackpad ; Solid battery life ; Google Assistant support is fantastic

App offering is lacking for power users and creatives ; Android apps can crash/not work on occasion ; Expensive for what it is

The Pixel Slate has promise, but Chrome OS needs work.

Google Pixel Slate review: The burden of bad software

Based purely on its hardware, the Pixel Slate is impressive. Unfortunately, the whole package is hampered by a confusing software experience and a high price. If you're looking for a Chrome device, there are plenty of less expensive options that work...

Gorgeous display ; Good battery life ; Excellent speakers ; Full desktop browser on a tablet is extremely useful

Performance as a tablet is subpar ; Android apps on Chrome OS are still a confusing (and sometimes buggy) mess ; Very expensive ; Pricey keyboard folio doesn’t work well on your lap

I love tablets and I love Chrome OS, and I was hoping to love the Pixel Slate. Despite the problems I've had, part of me still does. When I sit down and use it as a laptop, it's one of the best Chrome OS devices I've used. The screen is fantastic,...

Google Pixel Slate isn't your best Chromebook bet

Google's pricey vision of a tablet-meets-Chromebook doesn't quite gel

The Pixel Slate has a nice display, solid construction, a great-feeling keyboard accessory, supports mice and trackpads (like all Chromebooks), and has always-on Google Assistant as an option.

The Pixel Slate feels a little too heavy and has buggy software and unimpressive performance. It's expensive compared to competing Chromebook/tablet alternatives.

There are a lot of good ideas in the Pixel Slate, but this pricey Google tablet doesn't do enough to distinguish itself from the plenty of other great Chromebook options out there.

Google Pixel Slate

The first Chrome OS-based tablet from Google, the Pixel Slate is marvelous hardware, but in practice, it falls short of topping the Apple iPad, Chromebooks, or Windows tablets.

Cutting-edge design. Thin and light. Excellent screen quality. Robust speakers. Long battery life.

No headphone jack. Expensive as configured. Keyboard and stylus not included. Stylus-attachment scheme and screen palm rejection need work.

Bottom Line: The first Chrome OS-based tablet from Google, the Pixel Slate is superior hardware, but in practice, it falls short of topping the Apple iPad, Chromebooks, or Windows tablets.

Google Pixel Slate review: slapdash software ruins good hardware

Great hardware undone by a hundred tiny software indignities

Excellent speakers ; Two USB-C ports ; Nice screen

Software bugs ; Android apps still feel alien ; Folio keyboard is awkward

Google’s first tablet running Chrome OS has ambitions to take on Apple’s iPad Pro, but it can’t get there. Unfortunately, it’s great hardware undone by a hundred tiny software indignities.

Pixel C review: the best slate an Android fan can get

Google's combined style and substance creates the best iPad Air 2 rival out.

Brilliant display ; Premium design ; Plenty of power

Not optimised for keyboard ; Battery could be better ; Heavy

Google Pixel Slate review: So close, yet so far, from being a perfect Chrome-Android tablet hybrid

Google's Pixel Slate is a tablet that wants to be a Chromebook, and it's better at doing both than any other single device. But it's still a serious work-in-progress.

Bright, beautiful display with incredible resolution ; Gorgeous hardware that rivals Apple's iPad Pro

A little too heavy and big to use for very long as a tablet. ; Adding a obligatory Pixel Keyboard makes it a very expensive. ; Bugs and growing pains make it tough to use as a tablet.

There are a lot of things to like about the Pixel Slate. It has a gorgeous design, it comes in a range of prices and options, and it has a thoughtful two-way interface that plays to the strengths of each format. The companion Pixel Slate Keyboard fits...

Google Pixel Slate - Full Review and Benchmarks

Elegant design ; Sharp, vibrant screen ; Optional keyboard is both comfy and offers many angles ; Excellent handwriting recognition ; Great audio ; Nearly 10 hours of battery life

Buggy Bluetooth problems ; Keyboard adds heft ; Android apps on Chrome OS still a work in progress ; Expensive

The Google Pixel Slate is a great 2-in-1 with small issues that Google needs to fix.

Google Pixel Slate Review: An expensive experiment

If the Pixelbook demonstrated Google could make a compelling laptop, the Google Pixel Slate is its attempt to do the same for tablets. Like the latest iPad Pro, it's a confident claim that what was once considered a pared-back, mobile OS can now wear...

Handsome, well-constructed hardware ; Keyboard is comfortable to type on ; Two USB-C ports are flexible ; Screen is beautiful

Android app are still awkward on Chrome OS ; No headphone jack or SD card reader ; Pixel Slate Keyboard underwhelms in your lap ; Expensive
