Canon 50mm Macro: It's worth owning, but could be better.

 

50mm is a popular focal length for photographers because it closely matches what our eyes perceive. Prior to picking up this lens, I had the Canon 50mm f1.8. For the price I paid, it was great, but it did lack in a few areas.

Excellent macro and general purpose lens

 

Shooting wide open (2.5) there may be a little blur around the edges. One stop or more down (3.2+) the lens is great. It's amazing how sharp this lens can get for under $400.00. With 6MP you can get down the individual pixel.

Excellent at serving its intended purpose and can also serve as a standard 50mm

Slower than normal focus, poor in low-light
