great walkaround lens for the price

If 28mm is not wide enough, take a step back. I now use this lens (EF 28-135 IS USM) whenever I am outdoors and use the EF-S 17-85 IS USM lens when I am indoors when space is tighter (no room to take a step backwards).

This is a GREAT lens, especially for full-frame body. It has excellent color and contrast (not L-quality, but also not at L-lens prices). The lens focus quiet and fast. The IS helps for those situations where you use a slower shutter ; The 135mm reach...

This lens is not wide enough when used on a cropped body. The EF-S 17-85 is a better choice when you need wide on a cropped body; but the EF-S 17-85 lacks the reach of this lens

MMMM lovely lens

Love this lens!

This is a great walk around, I have two other "L" lenses and only thing it lacks is the contrast and speed of larger aperture, When switching to this lens from an L your pics might seem a lil "white washed" but turn up the contrast on your camera and...

Decent zoom lens

Fast autofocusing USM, image stabilization is great - more than just hype. This is a perfect "convenience" or "walkabout" lens; it has a great focal range, a relatively wide 28mm at one end and 135mm at full zoom. Great value, especially at the Egg....

Not the best lowlight performer despite the IS. At any aperture less than f/5.6 or so, images are quite soft. This lens is at its best at f/8 and above in my opinion

A good knock around lens

This is a great lens for a everyday shooter. It's range is nice and image stabilization is an amatuers dream. I love having it for a walk-around lens, but it will not deliver in a professional setting. Aperture is too narrow and focus is soft and slow.

This is a great starter lens. I call it my walk-around lens because if I take my 40D out for personal photos (it's a backup used in conjunction with our 5D) it's not life or death if something happens to it. The IS function is great and really allows...

Focus is soft and slow. This lens in particular is very lathargic with it's focus speed. You can easily miss a shot waiting for it to grab a focus plane in anything but exceptional lighting. It also seems to have whats called a soft focus. Simply put...

Adequate lens for a serious photographer

I got this from Newegg as the kit lens with my 40D. It's a great value as part of the kit, and a decent value if bought alone. It's not a replacement for the 24-70 f/2.8L or the 24-105 f/4L IS, but then it's also less than half the price of either of...

Good value, decent all around lens ; Useful range of focal lengths for general shooting, even on an APS-C body ; Image stabilization works well on stationary subjects ; Focus is nice and sharp at longer focal lengths ; Adequate performance as a macro...

Unacceptably soft focus at short focal lengths (< 50mm) at all apertures, at least on my sample ; Also, the seals popped on mine after a month or two, letting two BIG pieces of dust into the inner workings ; 28mm doesn't give a very wide field of...

Great lens

Using this with a Canon XTI and UV Filter. I bought this camera body only because i saw the lens that came with the XT/XTI and it was NOT a great lens.

Nice photos, IS, solid construction

A bit bulky? I am new to photography so i don't know what the correct feel is, but for me it's fine ; I have noticed that the range dial has loosened a bit. When the camera is pointing down off my shoulder, the lens will extend to the full135 instead...

Excellent lens

This is a perfect walk around lens. If you're wondering wither to get it or not, DO IT! It's a lens that'll stay on your camera wherever you go.

Almost everything about this lens rocks - see below for the only con. I'm a cosplay/portrait photographer and rarely have my camera fastened to a tripod or monopod, so the image stabilizer rocks when in low light situations. It also had a very nice...

Weight may be a problem for some, bu i have the battery grip and a bounce flash that work as a counter balance of sorts

Love this lens

Comparing the lens that came with the camera to this one is night and day. The OEM Kit lens is total junk compared to this one. I look forward to shooting a lot of night and automotive photography with this. love it.

This lens is awesome. I am new to the DSLR game, but come from DSLR-Like and File SLR cameras I know what good quality is. This lens is Meaty(heavy), quiet and takes sweet photos

None so far. I love it

bang for buc

For the price & performance vs the kits lens on the Rebel XT offers, it's a good buy. I took 2400+ pics in Europe trip and most came in good (learning curve). I like the reach, although it seems the last 35mm wasn't dramatic. The IS helps out ALOT....

full 135mm? pics came in a bit soft
