This is really partly a reply to the review on the DMR-BW500. It's also meant to help people who wan to buy a Panasonic blu-ray recorder.

This machine let's you record subtitles (closed captions) on hard drive as well as Blu-ray discs! It is a second generation recorder, so no need to fear teething problems

Closed captions can only be recorded on hard drive and Blu-ray, not on DVD. Programming direct to BD or DVD is not possible

Allows you to record HD broadcasts in full and that can then be transferred to Blu Ray (Copyright Permitting). Freesat is getting BBC iPlayer HD. Firmware upgrades are automatic through a LAN connection.

HD Freesat Twin tuner, 1080p Upscaler, compatible with other leading brand HDTV's. Records on every type of dvd / blu ray. Records in DR mode and can fit around 150 titles with no problems

No streaming over network, upscaler a bit too sharp and not as smooth as ps3, but hey that's it

I was realy weiry on the subject of the newest recording media but loved the idea of having a bluray player / recorder/ PVR w/500Gb HDD an almost tivo with twin HD tuner all in one unit,

An absolutely fantastic recording device, I've had this baby since it was released and still to this day it has performed brilliantly especially with my TH-P50V10A Neo plasma panel using Viera-link;)

Non that I can think of only that you cannot record directly to a bd-re/bd-r or dvd-r/+r,+rw,-rw recordings must must happen primarily on the HDD but it does'nt matter the quality is outstanding also you cannot record a High Definition signal from an...

I have owned this device for about six months and for the most part have been fairly impressed. Hard to complain to much as I purchased this as an open box from HH Gregg for fifty dollars minus a power cord and box. The picture quality on the blu rays...

Very fast unit was excellent picture quality for the money

Firmware appears to be running behind on some newer blu ray releases, specifically the Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Steel Book Region 1/A

It has a nice looking body to it. The picture from BD is perfect with its XVcolor and he picture for normal DVD is grate due to it 12-bit/148MHz video DAC wich it a beter video DAC than whats in JVC's dedicated upscalers, even the sound is Impressive...

Its a slick lookin machine, and for its price it gives a great picture quality on both BD and normaly DVD the upscalling is inpresive

I bought two of these when they first came out at $200 each. One player exhibited glitchy problems one nite playing Star Trek. Burnt the update rom file on a cd-r...loaded it in the player.Plays most bd's fine again, however, the player has constant...

Does an exceptional job with picture quality that should make anyone happy

An absolutely fantastic machine. It has 2 HD tuners, so you can record two programs, while watching a previous recording. It records on HDD, Blu-ray discs and all DVD's you can think off, including DVD RAM!

This machine let's you record subtitles (closed captions) on hard drive as well as Blu-ray discs! It is a second generation recorder, so no need to fear teething problems

None that I can think off, unless maybe that the closed captions can only be recorded on hard drive and Blu-ray, not on DVD
