Brother MFC-J885DW review

Budget printers usually requires sacrifice in features or performance, but Brother's J885DW office MFP delivers on the things that matter, at a low cost of purchase.

Affordable price ; Compact ; Very good output, speeds ; Numerous connectivity options

Auto feeder does not duplex ; Small-capacity paper tray

Brother makes some really nice printers for small businesses and home offices, and the J885DW fits nicely in either role as a budget MFP. Although Brother doesn’t market toward general home use, the J885DW also provides very good output quality for...

Brother MFC-J885DW review: Outgunned by faster do-it-all printers

The Brother MFC-J885DW is married by slow print output, mediocre features and a flimsy feeling build quality.

The ink cartridges on the Brother MFC-J885DW cost less to refill than other name-brand printers and the output quality is also commendable down to small fonts and faint lines.

The plastic materials cheapen the overall feel of the printer, the 100-sheet paper input capacity will likely be too small for the average small office, and the output speed is lacking compared to the competition.

Brother certainly makes a lot of very respectable work-friendly all-in-one printers, but the J885DW isn't one of them.

Brother MFC-J885DW

The Brother MFC-J885DW multifunction printer is packed with features, including an automatic document feeder and a duplexer, plus Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and NFC support.

Prints, scans, copies, faxes. Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and NFC. Duplexer. Automatic document feeder.

Low paper capacity. Text quality at the low end of the range for inkjet MFPs.

Conclusion With its duplexer and ADF, as ell as its wireless options, the Brother MFC-J885DW offers enough to make it a good fit for most personal or micro-office use. Be sure to also take a look at the Brother MFC-J870DW, which has faster speed,...

Brother MFC-J885DW review: Outgunned by faster do-it-all printers

These days, $150 -- about £100 or AU$200 -- buys you an "average" multifunction inkjet printer. You know: the ones that do printing, scanning, copying -- and throw in good old-fashioned faxing capability for good measure. You can certainly get cheaper,...
