The letters for the knobs are silk-screened on. What a design blunder! Mine haven't rubbed off yet, but I've only had it in place several months.

Had this cooktop just under 2 years. Stainless scratches easily, most of the numbers have rubbed off and the clear plastic dome covering the "on" light has come off leaving a hole. Viking refuses to help. They say that if anything but soap and water...
