Update Review

I am primarily a cappucino brewer but the espresso seems to be of high quality as well. Frothing seems to be working well for me.

I processed my RMA directly to Breville. They paid all shipping costs. I have used it two days and it is working fine

Took several days to have RMA processed but it came when they projected ; The basket is very different from standard espresso baskets. I find it makes pretty crema but still adjusting the grind/amount to get the "correct" fullness of flavor ; The hole...

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - Margie Lynch's Review

I acquired this machine almost accidentally. My boyfriend and I don't live together. I had a Saeco Vienna Superautomatica at my house and when I visited his house I was always wanting to go out for a cappuccino. Yard sale hound that he is he saw a...

Produces a high quality shot ; Excellent value

Double wall filter baskets ; Slow steaming

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - Christopher Brown's Review

I actually own two units. I bot a refurbished one in Canada from Breville 4-5 years ago and it is a bit better than the new one which sits in Florida. The earlier one has a trap door on the back which makes it easy to refill. The newer one requires the...

Outstanding espresso, because of the double wall basket

Mickey Mouse frothing, light weight filter holder and it is very hard to knock out; usually have to wash grounds out with running water ; Poor service

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - Ross Devitt's Review

I got this machine for $10 at a Salvation Army op-shop.

Solid construction ; Clean looks ; Not too big in kitchen ; Very easy to clean ; After making espresso and foam, the puck is nice and firm. No water on top. It taps out in a compacted disk you can pick up and crumble apart with fingers

No steam control - makes getting nice foam tricky and is hard to get steam wand into milk without blowing milk everywhere. takes practice ; Instruction manual was so wrong ; Filter basket is rubbish. Too much pressure for no flavour ; If you use very...

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - R Dhamer's Review

I've taken a great bit of time before writing this so it would be an aid to those who have stuck with this product despite its' shortcomings. I read the reviews as I was looking for an upgrade from the lowest end of espresso makers. After I received...

It's compact and sturdy. Although discontinued and quirky it appears reliable. Easy to clean and use by a relative newbe with my unconventional technique

The excess water and filter cup issues are real but solvable

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - Duane Thompson's Review

Here's how the Breville came into my kitchen. I had been using a machine I picked up in Italy for many, many years. This was long before Starbucks came to California. I had a to get a fairly large transformer to convert it from Italian voltage to 110v...

Easy to use. Easy to clean

Lasted 1-1/2 years and lever to switch from steam to brew is broken. Weak steamer

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - Kathryn J's Review

I bought this machine three years ago, it's still working and in decent condition. This was my first espresso machine that broke the 100 range. It took me quite a while to figure it out, but the more practice, the better the brew. While some people are...

Easy to use, have had it for three years. Makes a pretty nice shot when you start out

Doesn't make the best milk, it either foams too much or too little. Steam wand occassionally gets clogged by grinds (no idea how that happened)

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - CJ M's Review

I have owned the Breville 800 for over 3 1/2 years. 6 months of which, it was out of action due to waiting for a replacement motherboard. Overall though it's been a great addition to my kitchen, and considering how many coffees I have produced from it,...

Used for over 3 years on a daily basis, so it has given a good return on investment ; Easy to use ; Dependably good tasting coffee ; Steamer can produce a decent micro-foam ; Quick to heat ; Robust and easy to keep clean

Motherboard needed replacing. Had to wait 6 months for part (South Africa) ; Steamer pressure can be erratic ; Has limitations extruding flavour complexities

CoffeeGeek - Breville Espresso 800ESXL - Bob Gray's Review

The machine was easy to use out of the box. I initially tried a cheap burr grinder but could not get a consistent enough grind to make decent espresso. Once I got the grind down, I played around with different beans until I found one I liked. I drink...

This machine makes an excellent shot of espresso without a lot of practice. Just use fresh filtered water, a decent grinder and a decent, freshly roasted bean. For the grind, I make sure when I pinch the grind, it forms a clump and when I throw it into...

The unit is very noisy and rattles/vibrates when pumping and if you like a silky, micro bubble milk foam, I have not been able to achieve that. Works fine for lattes but not as well for cappucinos or tradiaonal machiattos
