What devices will the alaTest iPhone application work on?

The alaTest iPhone app works on any iPhone or iPod Touch with iPhone OS 3.1 or higher. The barcode reader requires iPhone 3G or 3GS with iPhone OS 3.1 or higher. The alaTest app will not work on any other iPod device. To determine your device’s OS, connect the device to your computer and refer to the appropriate “Summary” page in iTunes, or go to the “Settings” area on the actual device itself.

How do I get the alaTest iPhone application?

The alaTest iPhone app is available for download in the AppStore on your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can also download it to your computer through the AppStore in iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/alatest/id339971135?mt=8 (this link will open iTunes). In order to use the AppStore, you must first upgrade to version 2.x of the iPhone/iPod operating system, and the latest version of iTunes.

What information will I get from using the alaTest app?

Product quality information from the whole world aggregated, analyzed, structured and presented in a clear, understandable format giving you the opportunity to compare the quality between products in the same category. In addition you will get best price and product details (specifications) on each product.

What is the main difference between the alaTest iPhone app and similar apps from price comparison sites?

alaTest is focused on product quality rather than price point only giving you valuable information on the best quality products in the world. You can of course also find prices from local retailers in your area.

Is the alaTest Reviews app taking up a lot of memory resources on my iPhone?

No, it’s relatively small compared to a lot of other iPhone apps.

Does the alaTest iPhone app include advertisements?

No.

Can I use the alaTest iPhone app when traveling?

Yes, but note that in the absence of a Wi-Fi connection, the alaTest iPhone application uses your iPhone’s cellular network connection to access and download content. Normal network data rates apply, and you may incur roaming charges while traveling. Check with your local carrier. With the Airplane Mode enabled and therefore neither Wi-Fi nor cellular connection available it is not possible to use the app.

Can I use the alaTest app offline or in Airplane Mode?

No. The alaTest app requires a connection to the internet via Wi-Fi or cellular network.

How do I use the barcode reader?

The barcode reader is very easy to use and is a cooperation with Red Laser which offers the only really functional, easy to use barcode reader on the AppStore. Just point the camera at the bar code, align it properly within the target area and wait for the app to scan the code. No need to press a button. Once the barcode is properly read it will return a result with product information, reviews, specifications and prices on the product you just scanned.

How do I navigate in the application?

The alaTest iPhone app has a category menu and a search box on top. Type the product name (LITE version) in the search box or simply scan the barcode (full version). Or you can select a category by clicking on it and look through the products available. After selecting a product you will see three different tabs – Reviews, Prices and Details. The “Reviews” tab shows you the alaTest Review Summary and all available reviews collected for that specific product. You can click on each individual review to see a detailed view or to go to the source and read the full article. “Prices” tab gives you an overview of available retailers carrying the product, availability and prices from each merchant. Finally the “Details” tab displays product specifications and important details around the product.

How does the search function work?

In order to search for products, press the “Search” button in the tabbar that appears at the bottom of the screen. Type your search keywords into the field at the top of the screen, then press “Search” to find reviews on products that match your terms. (To hide the keyboard on the “Search” screen, press “Cancel”)

How do I use the “My Wishlist” feature in the alaTest app?

The “My Wishlist” feature enables you to save a list of products in the app as well as on the alaTest website. It is automatically synchronized with the web, so whether you add a product on the iPhone or online, it will be available anywhere. This is a great feature for when you are in the shop looking at products and you know you can get them less expensive online. Just scan the barcodes and it will be saved to “My Wishlist”. Back home you can login to your alaTest account on your computer and continue shopping. It’s that simple.

How do I create an account for the “My Wishlist” feature?

An alaTest-account for the “My Wishlist” feature is created automatically when you launch the alaTest app on your iPhone for the first time. In the Settings app you can log in to your account and change username, password and other details.

How do I add to or delete a product from “My Wishlist” in the alaTest app?

To add a product to “My Wishlist” simply scan any product with the barcode scanner and it automatically will be added to “My Wishlist”. If you are not using the scanner, you can add a product by tapping the “+” button shown at the top right of the product pages. To delete a product from “My Wishlist”, tap the “x” button that appears in the top right of the product pages of a product you want to delete in “My Wishlist”.

How do I view “My Wishlist”?

To view the items in “My Wishlist” just tap the “My Wishlist” icon in the tabbar at the bottom of the screen.

Will alaTest update the software or add new features to the iPhone application?

Yes. We are actively working to expand the feature set of the iPhone application, and will update the software periodically.
