The RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 offers 3G, GPS, good call quality, and BlackBerry's strong e-mail capabilities. The clamshell smartphone also has a 2-megapixel camera and supports BlackBerry App World.

The smartphone lacks Wi-Fi, and the SureType keyboard takes some acclimation and isn't ideal for heavy e-mail users.

While not the flashiest or the most feature-rich device, the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip for Verizon Wireless is a decent and affordable choice for first-time smartphone buyers.

The last of a dying breed

 

This is a great phone if you understand the needs it fills - texting, emailing, and making calls. I have my corporate and gmail accounts synched and it works perfectly. Typing is fast and easy with SureType (intelligent typing rather than multi-tap...

I would not recommend this phone for web browsing or heavy app usage. The camera is also pretty poor. The biggest downer for me is that the SureType is prone to certain mistakes and can be a pain to correct at times
