AVS Gear GV-IR01BK Vista Infrared MCE Black Learning Remote Control

I was kind of hesitant to buy this at first because all of the complaints about the remote being cheaply made and very directional. I am very glad that I ended up buying this remote. It has consolidated all of my living room remotes into one. It is...

Light weight but fairly sturdy. Attractive design. Buttons are well spaced and the layout is nice. Plug and play setup. Learning features are easy to use and have worked well with all of my remotes so far. Works well with Cyberlink Power DVD 10 out of...

None so far

Good Remote, esp. for Price

Bonus** Works with my laptop too. The wife was using the Media Center PC and weird stuff started happening on my laptop, we figured out it was the remote! I knew the laptop had a consumer IR port but I'd never used it before and didn't expect it to...

Works with PC and TV ; Easy to program (just follow instructions in the little Engrish book)

Sometimes buttons need to be held longer to register (seems to only be a problem on PC, not the TV, not sure if it is the PC itself since it is a rather old single-core updated to 7 for Media Center)

How to fix directional issue

Directional issue is an easy fix for someone who understands how a remote is supposed to work and is handy with a soldering iron.

Looks pretty, decent layout, nice size, and worked right out of the box with my existing AVS Gear IR receiver module connected to Win7 media center. It easily learned the power on code for my 15 year old audio receiver

Directional IR transmitter. - 1 egg ; Poorer quality plastic than other AVS Gear media center remotes I own, very thin. Thin remote plastic= soon to break

Fair, but many issues.

So far it's a good little remote. If it can learn my AV box's remote then it'll be a great little remote. Once it's past warrenty I'm gonna open it up and see if there's anything I can do to increase the reception. I'm fairly certain it's the remote...

Learning - This actually works fairly well. It seems to be having trouble learnign the remote for my AV box, but that might be because the AV box remote is old and sometimes doesn't work itself. Turns the TV on and off, which is all I really wanted the...

Very directional - More or less has to be pointed directly at the reciever, although I noticed that if you hold the romote vertically (on it's side) instead of horizontally it works better. (Why? Who knows. The beam probably disperses wider this way....

MCE Remote

I just wish the Microsoft MCE remote was still available.

Decent remote for the price, controls all your equipment

Terrible layout, no backlit buttons. Bad button response

Learning OK..

Learning remote that allows for ; PC ; TV ; AV ; AUX ; Learning is pretty easy ; VERY nice looking ; Works well with Windows 7

Very directional. Has to pointed at the receiver almost perfectly ; Thin plastic (my two year old broke the battery cover in the first week. But that's a two year old)

Works well

There are 4 modes: PC, TV, A/V, and AUX. The PC mode buttons are all for Media Center and can't be reassigned. This isn't a huge deal though since Media Center's volume controls work just fine. I ended up just leaving the remote in PC mode to control...

I only need one remote now for my TV, receiver, and my HTPC

You can't reassign the volume buttons in PC mode. I have to switch to receiver mode to change the receiver volume

Doesn't fit my needs, may work for others

in the end, even though its an okay remote for media center, it did not live up to the description of being a learning mce remote. therefore, it is sitting in the box in the storage closet. if this thing could learn my cable box commands*, then it...

(++) "green button" remote ; (+) relatively ergonomic ; (+) my wife thought it looked cool - i agree ; (+) mode buttons on top light up to indicate which mode you're in ; (+) learned my TV and Receiver remote commands

(--) wouldn't learn commands from my cable box, while other learning remotes around the house would...odd ; (-) no volume pass-thru. meaning that while in media center mode, when i press the volume button, i cannot control my receiver's volume. the...

Poor design, poor implementation

I was hoping to find a middle ground between the WMC-only remotes and a Harmony. This one is definitely not it. Buy one of the two prior. I'm using this only for the USB receiver, the remote is now in a closet.

It's light. It's cheap

Poor design: You can't overlay the TV controls (power and volume) on top of the Media Center controls. IOW, you need to keep flipping between TV mode and PC mode if you want to change the volume and channels. Poor implementation: The IR signal quality...

AVS Gear Remate

This is an example how you program the remote: Press the TV (or what you want to program it for) then release. Next press the DVD Menu button, then press the OK button. Then press what button you want to program. Press the corresponding button on the...

It's black. Light weight (This is not a bad thing because it is a very thin remote and a thin remote means light weight. It does not mean the remote is cheaply made). Its plug and play with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Bit (Installs 4 drivers and requires a...

Nothing to major, however if you have an old remote it may not learn from it. But a new remote programmed for the same TV works (I had this program). So if you have an old remote you may have to use a new remote from another TV to program it from (This...
