ViewSonic G Tablet review

For an Android tablet to truly go head-to-head with the Apple iPad, it needs to offer a comparably large 10-inch screen. That seems like a fairly logical premise, but, surprisingly, most of the Android tablets we've tested in 2010 have a screen size of...

The ViewSonic G Tablet is one of only a handful of Android-based devices offering a 10-inch screen at an iPad-besting price tag.

Adapting the smartphone OS to such a large screen requires many custom interface tweaks that fall short. The lack of official Google mobile services and Android Market limits potential. Many third-party apps don't work as expected.

The ViewSonic G Tablet carves out a unique niche among Android tablets, breaking away from the smartphone to become a type of domestic dashboard. Unfortunately, many key benefits of the Android OS are lost along the way.

ViewSonic G Tablet

While it packs a powerful Tegra 2 processor and offers fantastic battery life, this Android tablet's custom interface and software dampen the user experience.

The Viewsonic G Tablet has a few things going for it. We like the long battery life, access to popular apps through Handango, and relatively low price. However, it's hard to recommend this slate because of its uninspired design and downright annoying...

Viewsonic G Tablet

Viewsonic's 10-inch G Tablet is designed to compete with the Galaxy Tab and iPad for your gadget dollars. At first glance, the slate has strong specs: a bright 1024 x 600 display, a front-facing webcam, and a powerful dual-core Tegra 2 CPU. It also...

Review: Viewsonic G Tablet

Viewsonic is branching out into new markets and their most recent product is the 10″ G Tablet. With a bright 1024 x 600 display, a front-facing webcam, and a powerful dual-core Tegra 2 CPU it seems to have good hardware. It also has a custom Tap n Tap...

So I really have mixed feelings about this tablet. As it stands I think there are more negatives than positives, but there is always the prospect of rooting the G Tablet and loading on a custom ROM, however that is beyond the scope of this review. So...

ViewSonic G-Tablet

Good for its day. Now, better options for few extra $s.

As of July 2012: Seeing it as a refurb now for about $150. I am not sure that it wouldn't be better to get the quad-core Google Nexus 7 for a few dollars more. The screen viewing angle is bad, but if you can load CM7.2 on it, it is still a decent...

Hackable. Hardware buttons.

Screen: viewing angle, resolution. No design. Heavy. Installed software pretty bad - needs aftermarket ROMs to be really usable.

"2012 this is outdated big time. NO NETFLIX NO MARKET"

Super dissapointment, only good if you buy brand new and know what you are doing or want to spend obout 24hrs learning how to ROOT an android, back it up, flash the drive, and expect crashes, dont buy it. I returned mine and purchased another brand...

BIG SCREEN GOOD QUALITY, not nearly as fast as my Galaxy but not slow either. You Tube works, and its just like the old android phones.

Heavy, thick, OLD Operating System, this android is like the second one they ever made, super old and upgradding OS was not possible on the referbished models i purchased. NO NETFLIX, no gmail, no MARKET no GOOGLE PLAY yikes and you cant add them.

Great Value, Good Tablet

Great tablet and a great value if you are willing to tinker a bit. Plenty of horsepower and storage, but the tablet is stymied by it's stock software. GTablet is discounted because it ships with an older version of Android, and Viewsonic has moved on...

Not worth buying

I bought this device after several months of touch pad research. I was disapointed almost immediately. Unfortunately I didn't look into returning it until 3 months later and should have tried within the first month. First this device has the worse...
